Online Courses

Your #1 Resource for Business English

Biz English Station

Here you will find Business English courses offered online (with or without a personal instructor) and by phone.

Online Course With Teachers

  • English4Today. This is a very interesting site because it offers a combination of 1) software for your computer, 2) online course work, and 3) 20 hours of instruction by a teacher. The cost at June 2007 is US$570. For intermediate to advanced learners. See www.english4today.com . Then click on “Online Business English Course” in the middle of the page.
  • English Town. Part of the EF Group, Englishtown is one of the largest providers of online English instruction. You speak with teachers as part of the program. There appears to be multiple levels of Business English. See www.englishtown.com
  • Global English. Another very sophisticated online course with access to live teachers. Similar to most sophisticated courses there is a pre-test, assessment, and work completion report. There are multiple levels to the Business English course. See www.globalenglish.com

Online Course Without Teachers

  • Parlo.com. This is a site dedicated to e-learning and they offer two levels of Business English. The Virtual Immersion program appears to be unique, though it does not appear that there is an option for direct teacher interaction. See http://www.parlo.com/en/learn/courses/index_en.asp.
  • Abacus Communications. Here you will find online lessons related to telephoning, negotiating, meetings, and presentations. The company offers a one-week trial for free. We do not know the price of the full course. See www.language-software.com

Courses by Telephone

  • Go Fluent. Here you find Business English lessons by phone. It appears that you can choose the English accent that you prefer (American, British, etc.). It appears that 10 hours cost US$500. See http://www.gofluent.com/b2cUSA/desc_english_for_success.asp
  • Phone English. Based in the UK (British English accents we assume), you can register for Business English training. If you order at least five hours (10 lessons), the cost works out to US$38/hour. See www.phone-english.net
  • Telephon English. Also based in the UK, this service uses Skype to teach a wide variety of subjects. You can sign up for a course in general Business English or English for specialties such as Banking & Finance, Media & Communications, Information Technology, etc. The cost is US$195 for 10 classes (but it is unclear how long a class is). See www.telephonenglish.com
  • Talk to Canada. The teachers at Talk to Canada will provide beginning, intermediate, and advanced Business English instruction by phone. We assume that most of the teachers are Canadian (i.e. Canadian accent). If you purchase at least 10 hours, the cost is C$30/hour. See www.talktocanada.com
  • English For You. For Euro25/hour you can have customized lessons with an American instructor. English for You may be an individual teacher who has carved out a niche giving lessons by Skype. See http://babybirdproductions.com/skypeenglishlessonsonline.html
